Humidity and climate change are believed to be linked in several ways. As the Earth warms, more water is likely to be evaporating from the ocean. This increased humidity does not only affect the human body’s possibilities to handle a warmer climate, water vapor is also considered a “greenhouse gas”, contributing to a further increase in the surface temperature on the planet.

‘True Colors’ is a design-led exploration set out to investigate the relationship between information and emotional arousal. More specifically, how information related to human exposure to risk affects us emotionally with regard to how it is being presented.
By letting the physical environment become an interface to digital information, the interactive prototyping/research environment ‘True Colors’ is designed to turn the changes in the level of humidity in the air into a spatial live event of light and color. It creates an ambiance which is changing with the humidity over time, inviting you to immerse yourself in an experience that may turn out to be as beautiful as it is scary.

Climate change is a complex and ambiguous topic sometimes related to our mental well being in terms of anxiety or even fear. This project takes a research through design approach in order to exemplify, try out and discuss new concepts of ambient information and of making abstract data possible to be experienced, creating awareness and affordance for new relationships to the phenomena.
