Constructions

- How can we empower construction workers in co-creating their future working experiences?

-
During a period of 6 weeks and in collaboration with Scania and selected end-users of Scania’s construction truck models (construction workers from Wiklunds Åkeri) this project aimed to bring new insights into the process of enhancing the user experience of future truck models suitable for construction workers.

Since this user group spend most of their time inside and around the truck, the design have a major impact, not only how Scania is perceived as a brand but on the everyday working experiences including the emotional as well as physical well-being of the construction workers.

With a truly user-centered design approach, we always tried to look from the point of view of the end-users. By immersing ourselves in the context of the users to gain empathy and insight and by using a range of ethnographic/qualitative design research tools we aimed to understand the user experience from the construction workers perspective.

To identify unmet needs, we all worked together and in collaboration with the end-users, in the process of mapping out work flows and user journeys and discussing problems and solutions.

With quick concept sketches, scenarios, storyboards, physical mock-ups and through participatory experience prototyping with props and role-play, we created a common platform for discussion and to help to build a shared vision.

By considering users as experts of their own experiences our ambition was to empower the participatory users (the construction workers), with tools to express their unmet dreams, wishes and needs for the future.

The outcome of this project was a series of design proposals of how to enhance the user experience from the construction workers point of view and how these can be implemented in future truck models.
