Chameleon

- How can we bring new life to record cover art?

“Now look what I´ve become – I am a chameleon”

Since music is often consumed through portable devices with color screens today, I took the opportunity to push the concept of record cover artwork to a new level while designing the packaging for the digital release of the single ‘Chameleon’ by Swedish pop band The Je Ne Sais Quoi.

I created a new kind of music artwork, in constant flux, which would never be possible in a traditional printed packaging.

This artwork is uniquely performed each time it is viewed, where the band member’s personalities (faces) randomly blend with each other in different ways to endlessly create new “je ne sais quois” (’I do not know what’ in French).

On-line music stores such as iTunes etc. were not technically prepared for something like this yet… However, Swedish on-line music store Klicktrack kindly provided the artwork temporarily through an external link. This time-limited access made the release even more exclusive.

The project got great attention in media. This is an article published by Cap and Design, one of Scandinavia’s major magazines for creatives.
