‘Where the leaves burst’ is a study of how to make use of computers as persuasive technologies (captology) in our everyday environment to improve health and well-being by influencing peoples behavior.

In Sweden an increasing amount of people is suffering from health problems due to too much time of sitting and almost no time for exercise.

This project is celebrating the idea of the entrance as a shared space for interaction and collaboration where neighbors come together and create over time.

The interactive, responsive environment ‘Where the leaves burst’ is designed for the purpose of engaging people in activities leading to more healthy lifestyles.

Through a play with lights and shadows created by using motion sensors and energy saving LED technology this interior aims to inspire people to use the stairs for some everyday exercise. Each time someone uses the stairs, the shadow of a new branch of leaves appears on the wall.

Together people create the experience of a beautiful blooming entrance the more they use the stairs, while contributing to the flourishing of human well-being.
